Wind Farm Update

Wind Farm Update

As part of the development process of the permitted Moanvane Wind Farm, we recently informed residents, by way of a letter drop in the local area, that we will soon be starting the initial stages of construction.

This renewable energy project will have a lot to offer to the local area and to the country. Outlined in the letter below are some key details about the project, including how we intend to consult with the local community, the timeline of construction works and the benefit to the local area.

We are looking forward to working with the local community to deliver this exciting project. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any queries – all of the relevant contact details are supplied in the letter.

Re: Moanvane Wind Farm Update

Dear Resident,

As part of the development process of the permitted Moanvane Wind Farm, we would like to inform you that we will shortly be starting the initial stages of construction.

In the context of the current energy crisis, climate crisis and with rising electricity costs, this renewable energy project will have a lot to offer to the local area and to the country. Outlined below are some key details about the project, including how we intend to consult with the local community, the timeline of construction works and the benefit to the local area.

Community Engagement

Engagement with the local community is a vital part of our project development process. To ensure effective two-way communication, there will be a dedicated Community Liaison Officer (CLO) put in place. The CLO will be available to provide information on the construction works, give updates ahead of any planned works, answer queries that local residents may have, and engage with the local community regarding the Community Benefit Fund roll-out.

Through our previous engagements, we know that traffic management was a key issue raised. We want to assure the local community that we will be working hard to minimise any disruption to residents while works are being carried out.

A more detailed project update booklet, outlining more details of all aspects of the project, will be distributed to residents in the coming months. As well as this, a project website is in place – www.moanvanewindfarm.ie – and all project notifications and updates will be posted here.

Construction Works Outline

Main construction works will focus on the installation of a 12-turbine wind farm. The project works will also include the development of 6km of access road, onsite sub-station facilities and a grid connection route that will run along the public road.

Initial works that will take place over the next couple of months will include the opening of the site entrance and access roads, erecting appropriate Health & Safety signs, completion of the final detailed design and the setting up of construction compounds.

In terms of timelines, the main construction works will take approximately 12 months, the turbines installation about 5 months and the grid connections works will take approximately 5 months to complete. The Civil Contractor is Adman Civil Projects Ltd., and the Electrical Contractor is Jones Engineering.

Community Benefit Fund

It is general practice that a Community Benefit Fund isn’t put into place until the project is operational, but we are exploring ways to allow for support to be provided to some local community groups and initiatives during the construction process. We would hope to have a more details on this in the coming months and will provide any relevant updates on the project website.

Once construction has been completed, the full fund will activate. We are pleased to say that the value of the fund has been increased from €50,000 to €300,000 per year.

The aim of the fund will be to support the sustainability of the local area will invest in social, economic, and environmental initiatives. The fund will ensure that the area benefits directly from the local project and from the transformation of our energy system.

Any commitments that were made during the pre-planning stage will be honoured and delivered and more information will be provided in the upcoming project booklet.

We are looking forward to working with the local community to deliver this exciting project. Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries on the above information or any feedback on the Community Benefit Fund.

Yours sincerely,
